"THE CONVERSATION"
Yes; that one you have with yourself when you have to do a task that you really don't feel like doing. What is it? Where does it come from? Here is a simple theory. In our Westernized American culture, we have been brought up around the notion that life should be "Comfortable". Go to school, get a great education, get a degree in something that will enable you to make a lot of money so that you can go out and buy all the crap that makes life EASY. Big house, nice cars, the latest electronics, dishwashers, microwaves, remote controls for everything, a housekeeper so you don't have to clean, etc., etc.
Now, when you do have to do something that is challenging, everybody is overwhelmed to the point that they need medications just to deal with it. It's just madness! Well, at CrossFit, we approach things a bit differently. We have realized that a challenge is not necessarily something that should be avoided. It is truly an OPPORTUNITY to see what kind of integrity and character that you have forged in your life. And though we are all on different levels of that spectrum, we know that every time we walk through the door; it gives us another chance to test our abilities as a human being. A great man said, "Those butterflies in your stomach are just realizing that you are about to do something worth while" (~Joey Maggio).
I apply this primarily to the Workouts that we do, because when you are in a CrossFit WOD there are many times that your body wants you to give up. It says " Don't do it", "Slow Down", "Drop the weight", "Why am I doing this", "Quit", or "I can't". Then you find that OPPORTUNITY to remove the fear, build that character, and to realize your potential. This can be applied to ANYTHING you do in life! Let go of the fear of a challenge and embrace it. Wrap your essence around the fact that you are becoming more in tune with who you are and why your here! Every time you face something that you're scared of; look it directly in it's eye, and let it know this.
