LUCKY NUMBER 7

LUCKY NUMBER 7

In mid-2007 and after an 8 months of screwing around and CrossFitting with friends in living rooms, parks, and globo-gyms I decided that CrossFit Redding needed somewhere to call its own.

No more weird looks, no more “hey, you can’t do that here”. We needed our own space. On April 15, 2008 after a meeting with and Kevin, Jacob we found a building and opened the doors of what is now CrossFitRedding. The blue doors opened to Redding’s first CrossFit Gym. CrossFit has grown immensely since our first burpee. Athletes have gotten stronger, programming has become a complex game of strength, gymnastics and metabolic conditioning with the most important component… Fun! Let’s face it, this shit isn’t easy, so it better be fun. With the inception of the CrossFit Games, then Sectionals, Regionals and now the Open, the sport has advanced into realms we never thought possible.

With the inception of the CrossFit Games, then Sectionals, Regionals and now the Open, the sport has advanced into realms we never thought possible.

Those very first set of blue doors have brought a lot faces through them. Some, we thought would be here until the end and others were dragged in by an enthusiastic friend. More often than not the enthusiasm wore off, leaving only a memory. Meanwhile, the reluctant friend is still hitting PR’s and continues to get stronger, how many years later. The faces and personality’s that we have met through the years will always be a part of CrossFit Redding’s community; but as we continue to grow as a gym, build as a community and standout as athletes we have to take a moment for those that helped create that community. Some of you might remember running through the neighborhood at Gym 1.0 with pleasant smell of the grow operations and others might remember the very chilly mornings at Gym 2.0. Whatever your memories are of CrossFit Redding, remember, it is those that make CrossFit Redding much more than just a place to get sweaty and potentially throw-up. It is a community. A community that brings together healthy, likeminded individuals who share a common goal.

Athletes, who stand up to a challenge. Athletes who, look at what is written on the whiteboard and think “I can do that!” and YOU DO IT!

So as the coaches new and old look back and think of the past seven years, we can’t help but smile and think about what the future of CrossFit Redding’s athletes will be capable of in the next seven.
