Excuse me, Sir… Do you whiteboard?
Why Do We Whiteboard?
A few years ago I visited CrossFit gym in Maui. As I came in from my last 200 I fell to the floor and yelled, “time!” When I caught my breath I noticed other people writhing around, coming in from their run, falling to the floor, but nobody was yelling, or even panting out, “time.” At that point, I looked for a whiteboard and noticed there wasn’t one. Since then, I have visited many CrossFit gyms in different places and some still use the Whiteboard while others don’t.
At CrossFit Redding, as you know, we still use the Whiteboard and here is why. We love the Whiteboard because it’s a great motivator! When we come in, we look at how our friends did, how those that inspire us did and we create expectations for our work out. We use the Whiteboard to dictate to us how hard the work out might be or how long it is going to take. And beyond that we use Beyond the Whiteboard to keep track of our benchmarks.
We don’t use the Whiteboard to shame anyone or to show off. Everyday, every member of our CrossFit Redding community, is valued. Your growth and hard work are applauded, not based on your Whiteboard number but based on your continued desire to show up and get healthier, one WOD at a time.
